Rules Changes: Cleaning the ball During Competition

  • Aug 4, 2021
  • 1 min read

USBC Rule 18 - Bowling Ball - Altering Surface states that any bowling ball cannot be cleaned, have its surface altered, or have on it any foreign material (powder, rosin, marker, etc.) once the first bowler throws the first ball of that competition event. However, in consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the USBC will allow rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) during competition for this season. See USBC Rulebook Rule 18 for more information on altering a bowling surface.
